The North Shore’s Tuff Crater, a volcanic crater known for its mangrove-filled salt marsh and stunning views of the Waitematā Harbour and Auckland skyline, underwent an upgrade to its walkway. Funded by the Kaipātiki Local Board, this project aimed to provide a safer, more accessible, and reliable experience for visitors. The upgraded walkway also plays a crucial role in connecting the wider Northcote area, addressing the needs of an increasing population and potentially linking to the future Northern Pathway. 

For the boardwalk’s construction, council staff opted for BiForm recycled plastic composite decking instead of traditional timber. This decision was based on several key factors:
